About Leonora
Leonora is an award-winning designer based in Naas, Ireland. She creates unique handmade hats and headpieces. Her techniques include traditional hat blocking, lace making with wire, beading and more.
She graduated from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, specialising in Embroidered Textiles. With an interest in historical fashion, Leonora wrote her thesis on the textile conservation of the National Trust's Springhill Costume Collection. She later gave a talk about this collection at the National Museum of Ireland in Collins Barracks, Dublin, to accompany the travelling exhibit of exquisite pieces from Springhill.
She went on to work in costume for a number of events, attractions and productions for film and TV, before founding her label in 2011. Her textile art and millinery work have been exhibited in various museums and galleries, including the V&A Museum, London.
Leonora was selected for Brown Thomas Dublin's Create from 2017-21, where her collection was sold in the prestigious Grafton Street store.
She was awarded Millinery Designer of the Year at the Irish Fashion Innovation Awards in 2018, the Traditional Lacemakers of Ireland Award and the Eleanor de la Branchardière Award for Innovation in Lace at the RDS Craft Awards.
As a member of the Council of Irish Fashion Designers and the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland, Leonora strives to achieve the highest standard of design and craftmanship. Committed to the ethos of slow fashion and seasonless design, she hopes to create heirloom pieces to be enjoyed for generations. Customers are also welcome to come back and discuss altering their headpiece for a new look if it no longer suits, helping to limit waste and preserve our precious resources.
